Kurt Prenzler
Candidate for Madison County Treasurer

Press Release

August 25, 2010

Today an employee of Frank Miles was sentenced for the crime of stealing over $31,000 of taxpayers' money. The employee stole from the Madison County Planning and Development Department, which was under the supervision of Frank Miles, who was later appointed by the Democrats to be Madison County Treasurer.

The Treasurer of Madison County is responsible for collecting and safeguarding many millions of dollars of property taxes, and distributing these funds to various taxing districts.

During Miles' tenure as Director of the Madison County Planning and Development Department, his employee stole over $31,000. He failed to be a "watchdog" of taxpayers' money, and would have been terminated by any private business owner.

The money was stolen from Dec 1, 2007 - Nov 26, 2008.

It took another county office to discover the theft, many months later.

Accounting controls were sadly lacking.

Miles has zero experience in business or accounting. He is not a CPA.

Miles has proven that he is incapable of protecting and safeguarding the taxpayers' money.

Frank Miles is not up to the job, and doesn't deserve to be Treasurer of Madison County.

Madison County's Real Estate Tax Assessments
The township tax assessors help to set assessments. In reference to appealing your high assessments, the politically appointed Madison County Treasurer, after going through the lengthy steps is quoted in his own press release from July 6th, 2010 as saying that, “The property assessment appeal process is not as daunting as it may seem, especially with the assistance available from a variety of sources...”

Miles said. “But the burden of proof is on the property owner to present compelling evidence to prove that their property is over-assessed.”

The "burden of proof" is on you. How do you feel about that?

Kurt Prenzler Sheds Light on Waste at County Treasurer's Office
While stories about government waste and corruption seem to be a daily occurrence on the national news, some people are looking at their local governments and asking if they are getting good value for their tax dollars. One of these individuals is the Republican candidate for Madison County Treasurer, Kurt Prenzler, CPA.

Prenzler has stated that the Madison County Treasurer’s office is the most expensive treasurer’s office in Illinois on a per capita basis. It’s not only the most expensive, but it's actually more than 2 1/2 times as expensive as McLean County and more than 3 times as expensive as Winnebago or Champaign counties. It’s not that these counties have performed some magic trick. It’s simply that the treasurers of these counties are running their departments better and much more efficiently then Madison County’s treasurer, Frank Miles.

Madison County

Cost Madison is ___ times
County Payroll FY 2010 Population per capita more expensive
Champaign $ 244,477 195,671 $ 1.25 3.1
Madison $ 1,045,914 268,457 $ 3.90
McLean $ 251,301 167,699 $ 1.50 2.6
Winnebago $ 344,824 299,702 $ 1.15 3.4

How did Kurt Prenzler discover the inefficiency? He simply did what comes naturally to a CPA and what should come natural to any effective treasurer. He gathered the information and analyzed the data, looking for waste and inefficiencies.

“Everyone knows that taxes are high in Madison County,” said Prenzler. “It’s the number one issue that people want to discuss with me when I’m campaigning. My pledge to the taxpayers is to cut the size and budget of the Treasurer's office by 30% within 30 days of taking office. The majority of these cuts will be made by asking a few political appointees and pals to find jobs in the private sector. Other counties have proven this can be done. Conservative Mike Babcock, Township Supervisor of Wood River Township, has shown that significant cuts can be made to a bloated budget. As a CPA, I pledge to bring ethical and cost-effective management to the Madison County Treasurer’s office, together with a respectful attitude toward employees and

Jason Plummer enters Lt Governor race Comments 26 | Recommend 2

The Telegraph

EDWARDSVILLE — A lumber company businessman says he will enter the GOP race for lieutenant governor next week during a statewide tour of Illinois.

Jason Plummer, 27, of Edwardsville, said he will use the office as "a bully pulpit" to help create jobs.

It would be his first run for any public office.

Plummer is vice president of corporate development at the family business, R.P. Lumber, which is headquartered in Edwardsville, and subsidiary companies focusing on property development and technology investments.

"As a small businessman, I know what it takes to create new jobs in Illinois," he said in a statement. "Our family is proud and humbled by the fact that we employ hundreds of people in our lumberyards and other companies in Illinois," he said.

"As lieutenant governor, I will draw from that experience and use the office as a bully pulpit to help create new and meaningful jobs and revitalize the Illinois economy," he said. "I will also work with employers, both small and large, to help remove the bureaucratic roadblocks that unnecessarily hinder their ability to grow their businesses and provide job opportunities and career growth to the hardworking people of Illinois," he added.

Plummer was not available for a more detailed interview Tuesday, said his campaign spokesman, John Pastuovic. Plummer will make a formal announcement next week, possibly on Tuesday. Filing for office does not begin until the last week of October.

Plummer said he is looking forward to meeting voters and discussing strategies for kick starting Illinois’ economic engine and creating new jobs.

Pastuovic noted that the office of lieutenant governor only has a few constitutionally mandated responsibilities, but "the right person can take that office and use it" to forward recommendations for job-creating legislative change.

Plummer is former Madison County Republican Party chairman. His father, Robert Plummer, has been an influential member of the party for many years and once flirted with running for state office.

Jason Plummer also was a delegate to the presidential campaign of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
